    • Welcome to the section titled "Content & Authoring Tools for Virtual Learning". 


    • You've been tasked with developing your first eLearning course, and you don’t know where to start. There are so many questions that need answering but three of the main ones are a) What type of educational material is required?, b) What type of eLearning content will you be developing? c) What is even feasible in the project’s time frame and budget? This section is a roadmap for discovering which are the available media resources and which are their key characteristics.

      Watch the two videos below where the definition of the educational content for eLearning and some core characteristics that need to be considered are being introduced.

    • In the videos below we will discuss about the educational content types for eLearning. Some of the main types of available media like text, audio, video, graphics, and animations, and their main characteristics are being introduced.

    • Starting a new course can be overwhelming – especially creating course videos to support your learning activities, which require knowledge of scripting and copyright issues, alongside recording and editing skills. If you wish, follow the link "Reading on video creation" in the section "Bibliography & links for further reading", in order to find several simple factsheets about creating video foe eLearning, provided by TUDelft online Learning Hub.

    • If you want to get involved more deeply in the podcast creation procedure, read the tutorial “Starting Your Podcast: A Guide For Students” posted on “National Public Radio” site. You can find the link in the section "Bibliography & links for further reading".

    • To help us create effective multimedia learning resources, Richard Mayer has developed a theory of Principles of Multimedia Learning. Think of these principles as ‘guidelines’ as you develop your digital learning content. Additionally, Tony Bates states the importance of choosing the appropriate media or technologies for content creation. As you begin building your eLearning content, we suggest follow these guides as a helpful reference to design and develop your learning experience.

    • You might find it difficult to pick the best eLearning authoring tools matching your needs. After all, there are so many options to choose from. The abundance of choice makes it even more challenging to get familiar with the key features of this tools. The right eLearning authoring tools help you create meaningful and engaging content for online learners. This section introduces you the main characteristics of a modern authoring tool.

    • One of the major challenges with content delivery is interoperability of the content through the different Learning Management Systems. The SCORM® (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) and other Standards were created to address these interoperability, reusability, and durability challenges. Following the below link of Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative you can find information about the SCORM Standard.
