• Module 1: Preparing to be a virtual learning facilitator

  
  

  Description

  This first module entitled “preparing to be a virtual learning facilitator” aims to introduce you to several aspects of being a virtual learning facilitator. It will give you an overview on different types of online courses and the role and function of virtual facilitators according to different models. It will also introduce you to some facilitation techniques that will be further discussed on Module 3.

  
  

  By the end of the Module 1 you will be able to:

  • explain the main characteristics of different types of online courses;
  • recognize different types of online courses when presented with descriptions of different scenarios;
  • choose the type of online course best suited to different training needs and objectives;
  • explain the main role of the virtual learning facilitator having into account the different author’s models;
  • identify different actions/activities linked to the main areas of the virtual facilitator’s role;
  • identify your potential  strengths and weaknesses as a virtual online facilitator according to the Online Facilitators Competence Model;
  • identity ten online facilitation techniques for virtual learning facilitation;
  • Analyse and identify your potential  strengths and weaknesses when in contact with the 10 online facilitation techniques for virtual facilitation;
  • explain how different online facilitation techniques can be used in different scenarios.

  Description

  Welcome to the " ICT tools for virtual learning facilitators” module. This part of the course is devoted in getting you acquainted with tools that can help you to manage and administrate your e-class effectively, facilitate communication and collaboration in virtual environments and adapt efficiently to a digital environment and make e- learning process more engaging, productive and lively. In this module, Learning Management Systems and their basic features, are introduced. Through the materials of this section, participants will get familiar with the major aspects related to eLearning content as well as the use of methodological designing frameworks and authoring tools for content development.

  By the end of the Module 2 you will be able to:

  • identify which are the main categories of facilitation tools,
  • select the appropriate facilitation tool according to the instructional design needs of your course,
  • use some representative tools for facilitation, define what an LMS is and which are its main types,
  • identify the main features and the main tool an LMS should have, 
  • present some general benefits of using LMSs in Education, 
  • present some LMSs suitable in Education,
  • present some Learning Analytics Dashboards (LADs) that extends LMSs services,
  • describe Moodle key features for learners, teachers and platform administrators,
  • be able to identify what content for eLearning is, and which are the main applicable content principles for eLearning,
  • have sufficient knowledge for authoring tools for eLearning and their basic usage,
  • be able to create content for eLearning with the use of an authoring tool,
  • be able to identify Digital repositories, Digital resources, and Open Educational Resources (OER),
  • have sufficient knowledge on how to search, access, and select OERs,

  Description

  In this section, we introduce you to Learning Management Systems, their different types and their basic features, and tools. Next, we discuss the benefits that an LMS offers in education and make reference to the most popular ones. Moreover, we give some rule of thumbs for someone to select an LMS suitable for educational purposes and we make a short introduction to Learning Analytics Dashboards that extend LMSs services, enrich the educational process and help stakeholders for decision making. Finally, we present Moodle learning platform, the most popular Learning Management System and we give a list of its features suitable for course creators and system administrators.  

  By the end of the section 2.2 Learning Management Systems you will be able to:

  • define what an LMS is and which are its main types
  • identify the main features and the main tool an LMS should have
  • present some general benefits of using LMSs in Education
