In this reading, we make a short presentation of the notion of the Learning management System (LMS). We present the different types of LMSs, their basic features and the standard tools an LMS have to offer to users, course creators and system administrators. Next, we discuss the benefits that an LMS offers in education and make reference to the most popular ones. We give some rule of thumbs for someone to select an LMS suitable for educational purposes and, finally, we make a short introduction to Learning Analytics Dashboards that extend LMSs services, enrich the educational process and help stakeholders for decision making.
