Module 5.1: Case study 2: A greener curriculum

ZER Les Vinyes, Marçà (Catalonia)

Duration: 60 hours over 2 school years

This activity describes the curricular environmentalization process carried out by the ZER Schools of Les Vinyes. In the process, the methodological lines were created for the development of transversal environmental activities that are intended for all educational levels, which can mostly be replicated in other schools and represent a bank of activities.

The following sequence is proposed for each training session:

  1.  A classroom teacher designs an activity to do with the students. This design includes the preparation of the teacher's sheet, with the information necessary to prepare it and the work to be done by the students.

  1. Throughout the training session, the teacher proposing the activity explains it to the other teachers in the classroom, who act as if they were students for whom the activity is intended. In this way, the activity is tested and, once the exhibition is finished, the appropriateness of the objectives worked on, the level, the content proposals, etc. are discussed among all the teachers. In short, they are all looking for elements to improve the proposed activity.

  1. The changes are collected by the training advisers (who are two teachers from the school team) and, in the following session, the activity is presented with the improvements incorporated.

  1. Once the activities are considered good, they are applied to the corresponding levels. In this participative way, among all the teachers of the center, a set of environmental activities have been designed, which are available in the center website.
