Module 4.1: Case study 2: Schools of Brussels (Belgium)

Which need or problem is addressed?

This project aims to strengthen the involvement of young people in Brussels in climate and environmental issues. The term "eco-teens" refers to an autonomous, sustainable and proactive group of students of all ages who voluntarily come together to take action for the environment in their school.

How is it done?

These actions can take different forms, and aim to achieve one or more of these objectives:

Reduce/better manage waste

Better management of resources (especially water and energy)

Reviewing our consumption patterns (favouring local and circular products, becoming aware of the environmental impact of our purchases)

Promote local, healthy, responsible and/or ethical food

Think about mobility differently (soft mobility)

Reconnecting with nature, with our living environment

What is the impact for teachers / students / the community?

A dynamic of projects by, for and with young people

At least 1 environmental project per year

Young people with a greatly enhanced sense of empowerment

Young people with a better understanding of environmental/climate issues

Eco-students who aim for self-management

A supportive and active network of eco-student coordinating teachers in Brussels
