Discussion 3.3: How did you or how would you deal with “virtual zombies”?
As we mentioned in the video, the virtual facilitation can be a tricky business and it requires a lot of practice to master it. We also mentioned several situations, which are likely to occur more often in our virtual classrooms. Nevertheless, with the tips provided, we can prepare for them. After watching the video, please think about:
Have you ever experienced the problem of “Virtual Zombies”? If so, how did you deal with it? What facilitation method did you use?
If you have never facilitated a virtual classroom, have you ever become a “Virtual Zombie”? What do you think the facilitator could have done to avoid it?
As a learner, have you ever experienced an outstanding virtual workshop in which you felt 100% engaged, interested and motivated? What features made the workshop be so exceptional? Please share the details with us.
Optional but recommended: please write a post in the discussion forum answering the questions above using your experience or opinion. If you have many experiences, pick the one or two that you consider the most interesting or important and write about it/them in detail.
Important note: nobody is perfect, and same applies to virtual facilitators. As we practice by facilitating more, we meet different individuals, face different group dynamics and engagement levels among participants. We might struggle to find the right technique or tool in specific new situations. We encourage you to explore the options, look up online various techniques and stay up to date. Our FAVILLE app could help as well. Check it out if you need help answering questions in this discussion.
