Topic outline
Welcome and introduction
You are an experienced Virtual Learning Facilitator, but you have not undergone a specific training for this task? You have acquired your skills and competences “on the job”, through “learning by doing”, or through informal self-study? You do not have a certificate confirming your professional competences as a VLF? Then the FAVILLE Validation could be the right thing for you.
The FAVILLE validation process will guide you to systematically reflect on, document and demonstrate your own competences in several steps. For this purpose, different instruments - a self-evaluation questionnaire, an application portfolio and a competency test - will be used.
Your competences will be checked against the FAVILLE competence profile by an assessor. The FAVILLE competence profile identifies the competences that a VLF should have in order to be able to carry out his or her tasks professionally. The profile was developed on the basis of literature reviews and expert interviews in the European FAVILLE project.
1) E-learning Competence (Conceptual, Technical, Legal)
2) Socio-communicative and facilitation competence
3) Professional awareness and adherence to adult learning principles
4) Didactic-Methodical Skills
5) Managing, Planning, Organisational SkillsIf you sufficiently cover the FAVILLE competence profile in each of the five competence areas, you will be re entitled to receive the FAVILLE certificate confirming these competences. The FAVILLE certificate
- confirms your professional competences as Facilitator of Virtual Learning
- documents your competences in five areas, based on the FAVILLE competence profile
- can be obtained either by completing the FAVILLE training course or the FAVILLE validation process - either certificate is equivalent
- corresponds to the qualification level 5 of the
European Qualifications Framework
Interested? Learn more about the FAVILLE validation process and how it works in detail in the User Guide! This profile defines the competences that are needed for carrying out the tasks of a Virtual Learning Facilitator in a professional manner.
This guide gives an introduction to the FAVILLE validation process, describing it step by step.
Step 1 - Self Assessment Questionnaire
The FAVILLE-self assessment questionnaire represents the first step in the FAVILLE validation process.
This questionnaire will allow you to assess your own skills and competences as a Virtual Learning Facilitator. The questionnaire is based on the FAVILLE-competence profile and covers the following five competence areas
- E-learning Competence (Conceptual, Technical, Legal)
- Socio-communicative and facilitation competence
- Professional awareness and adherence to adult learning principles
- Didactic-Methodical Skills
- Managing, Planning, Organisational Skills
The questionnaire is available as a downloadable excel file. As a result, the excel file will generate two radar charts for you, which show how strongly the various competence areas of the FAVILLE profile are developed in your own estimation.
Please download the excel file and follow the instructions given therein.
Subsequently, if you wish to continue the validation process, proceed further to the next step "Application Portfolio"
Step 2 - Application Portfolio
You have completed the FAVILLE Self-Assessment Questionnaire and now want to get serious about the validation process? Congratulations!
On this page you will find the application form with instructions on how to proceed.
For the application you will be asked
a) give some personal details
b) describe your relevant professional experience as a virtual learning facilitator
c) give a list of the documents you will submit in order to provide evidence of your competences
d) explain for each competence area from the FAVILLE profile, where exactly in your documents the related evidence can be found
Please fill in the application form carefully. As far as section d is concerned, please note: The more carefully you work on this section, the more you increase the likelihood that the evaluator will be able to fully and correctly appreciate your documents.
This template guides you in creating your application portfolio. Carefully follow the instructions in the document and then upload your portfolio for evaluation by an assessor.
Have you filled in everything completely and are your documents ready for upload?
Congratulations! You have mastered the first important step in the validation process.
Now upload your filled application portoflio template and your supporting documents for review.
Step 3 - Competence Test
Welcome to the second part of the validation process.
You have already taken the self-assessment test. This has already given you the opportunity to reflect on the competences you bring with you as a Virtual Learning Facilitator (VLF). In the second step of the validation process, you will be asked to complete a series of questions and tasks that will enable you to apply and demonstrate your competences. This will lay an important foundation for the validation process by making your competences visible and assessable for external evaluators.
The competence test consists of two parts. The first part is a knowledge test with 16 closed questions. Here you have to tick the correct answer option(s) for each question. The second part (microteaching) consists of three practice-related tasks. Here you have to develop a training concept, analyse a practice problem and develop a solution to that problem, and, finally, reflect on your own professional practice.
A total time of approx. 3 hours is estimated to be required to complete the test.
To pass the test, you must achieve at least 70% of the maximum possible points in each part. In the second part of the test, you must also achieve at least 50% of the maximum possible points in each of the three tasks.
And now good luck with the test!
- After completing the knowledge test, the last remaining task for you is now to work on practice tasks. Download the task sheet provided, read the instructions and work through the tasks as carefully as possible. Then upload the completed word file here again.
